Date: 8th of May
Location: Edinburgh, UK
The Eating Disorder (ED) Early Career Researcher (ECR) Network network (co-leads: Dr Emy Nimbley, Dr Michelle Sader, Dr Tine Opitz) had the splendid opportunity to host ECRs for an all-day workshop on the 8th of May. The first portion of this workshop included a series of presentations and interactive morning session on ECR funding experiences, led by the L3 Fellowship group. As part of this workshop, three ECRs shared their experiences on applying for a fellowship with key funders (MQ Mental Health, NIHR Postdoctoral Award, Wellcome Trust), and whole-group discussions were had on how to improve the experiences and outcomes for ECR funding applicants.
During the afternoon portion of the workshop, the network also hosted ECRs to take part in interactive group sessions on working with peer researchers and meaningfully engaging in research co-production. This session was led by the recently established Peer Researcher Network: a UK-wide network of people with lived/living experiences of EDs who are active members in research teams.
Post-event, attendees and network members also had the opportunity to enjoy some sunshine and drinks at the Pleasance Cafe! The network hopes organise more in-person and online events for ED ECRs in the future, such as writing retreats, regular check-ins, and hopefully even an ECR conference. A large thanks to our lovely attendees for taking part in this exciting networking event, as well as to the funding bodies (Mental Health Research [MHR] Incubator Seed Fund, Edinburgh Mental Health [EMH] Network) for making this workshop possible.
